Saint Bonaventure’s Finance Council, consisting of the pastor and a maximum of seven members and no less than five, advise the pastor in all financial matters of the parish, including the church, school, and other parish organizations.
The Finance Council, established by the authority of Canon Law and the Bishop of Orange, recommends to the pastor the approval of the church and school annual budgets and financial reports, capital projects, and other parish financial systems. Additionally, the Council assists the pastor in evaluating the proper and equitable use of parish properties and buildings and reviews real property matters.
The pastor appoints members to the Finance Council who may serve up to two consecutive three-year terms. Expertise in accounting, budgeting, financial analysis, planning, and management is essential for members of the Council. The Constitution of the Finance Council describes the standards and requirements for membership and outlines the member’s responsibilities. A Pastoral Council liaison and staff members of the parish attend meetings of the Council but do not vote on proposed actions.
