Greeters

"Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God."

– Romans 15:7

Our Greeters Ministry is a subgroup of our larger Stewardship Team at St. Bonaventure Parish.  Our goal is to help individuals feel welcome and part of our St. Bonaventure family, whether they are life-long parishioners or first-time visitors, upon their immediate arrival at our church.   A verbal greeting and the offer of a warm handshake is a way of letting others know, “I’m glad you are here. I want you to feel welcome. You belong here.”

Greeters at the entrance doors of the church are the first individuals encountered when arriving at St. Bonaventure.  Our ministry is an opportunity to extend a personal expression of Christian warmth and welcome to each person who enters our church. Our everyday lives can be very challenging and stressful.  Many people look to our weekend liturgies as a chance to be uplifted and share Christ’s love with one another.  It is the church greeter who opens the door to a kindly church and the potential of a spiritually refreshing worship experience.

Our time commitment is only 10 minutes each week, at the start of each mass.  Join us!  Interested in becoming a Greeter?  Please contact Trina McMann at (714) 840-3710 or (562) 743-1686 (cell). Lectors

"I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingly power, proclaim the word . . ."

2 Timothy 4:1

The lectors of Saint Bonaventure proclaim the first and second Scripture readings and the Prayers of the Faithful at the Sunday and Holy Day Masses.

The lectors meet every Monday night at 7:30 p.m. in Saint Bonaventure church to pray and reflect on the readings for the coming Sunday and practice those readings.

We are always seeking individuals who feel called to proclaim the Word of God.

Anyone who is interested in becoming a lector may contact Jim Wallace at (714) 840-6588 (home) or (714) 840-9772 (home office) or (714) 396-0109 (cell). You can also contact Jim by e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Liturgy Environment

Liturgical Environment creates the seasonal visual environment in the church by creating banners, Easter and baptismal candles, artworks for special events, cards, bulletin covers and icons.

Liturgical Flowers

The Liturgical Flower Ministry is a service within the Liturgical Environment Ministry. Our team of three leaders and 11 members design and create floral arrangements for the altar weekly and for special liturgical seasons and feast days.

Flowers enrich the liturgical experience because they reflect the beauty of God’s love for us in His creation. We share in Christ’s message of new life and rebirth with the elements of nature that we use in our floral arrangements.

We also serve at charity events supported by the parish, such as the Mary’s Shelter Gala, and the anniversary and retirement celebrations of our priests and religious. In addition, we consult with couples preparing for marriage. For a donation of $100, we design our altar arrangements according to the bride’s choice of colors and flowers.

Once a week team members meet at the church to design arrangements for the altar. We meet as a group once a year for a workshop and to recruit new members, usually during the Christmas season.

Liturgy Team

The Catholic Church is fundamentally liturgical and sacramental in its public life of worship. The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains the liturgy as something that “the whole Christ”, Head and Body, celebrates. St. Bonaventure Church recognizes this and places great importance in the celebration of the liturgy. The Eucharist is central to the faith life of our community. It is a sign of our unity, a source of life, hope and nourishment; binding us together as the Body of Christ. We strive for the full and active participation of all who gather to celebrate the Liturgy. The first and foremost responsibility of the Liturgy Team of St. Bonaventure is to ensure the meaningful and proper celebration of the liturgy by coordinating and preparing the celebration of the Liturgies of the parish, especially the Mass.

The Liturgy Team members must have a love of liturgy and Scripture. They must be willing to be generous with their time in preparing the various liturgical celebrations. The various responsibilities of our Liturgy Team are:

  1. Helping the priests and our community with all aspects of the Eucharistic Liturgy
  2. Preparing and training those involved in the Liturgical ministries
  3. Coordinating the Liturgical seasons
  4. Planning special Liturgical celebrations
